OSHA Issues Hazard Warning for Hair Styling Products

Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the program of Connecticut State OSHA has recently issued warnings based on formaldehyde exposure as possible after the use of smoothing the hair. Specifically, several concerns were raised about the toxicity of products that are labeled "formaldehyde-free" but still emit noxious fumes. The warnings apply to the hair salon owners, designers, workers and customers show.

Formaldehyde is a colorless, strong smelling gas that is commonly used in plywood bonding and embalm the body for burial.It is a highly toxic substance that can be dangerous if exposed to it. According to the OSHA hazard warnings, workers may be exposed to formaldehyde by inhalation or contact with skin and eyes. Workers can also be accidentally exposed by eating or touching their faces after using a product of formaldehyde without washing hands first.
