Prep golf opener set for Friday

BELPRE - The high school sports season isn't even a week old yet, and already local athletes are taking to the course to get competition under way when Oxbow Golf and Country Club hosts the Washington County Invitational golf tournament on Friday.

Belpre - High school sports season is not even one week yet, and already the local athletes are taking the course for the current competition when Oxbow Golf and Country Club hosts golf tournament at the invitation of Washington County on Friday.

"It's a good tournament. They (golfers) the chance to play against guys they know, "said Warren golf coach Nathan Evans.

The Warriors are hosting this year's Invitational in Washington County, although Oxbow Golf Course is the home for both Warren and Belpre Golden Eagles.

Even if they are on their home course, tournament Friday is not technically a home game for the Eagles, said coach Scott Miller Golf Belpre. The two schools, Belpre and Warren, which serves as an alternate host for the tournament each year.

Akron, OH (Sports Network) - Adam Scott didn't have his best day by any stretch of the imagination, but an even-par 70 on Friday was enough to maintain a share of the lead after two rounds of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.

Scott fell one stroke shy of the Firestone Country Club South Course record with an eight-under 62 on Thursday, but managed only two birdies and had as many bogeys Friday to complete 36 holes at eight-under 132. Five of Scott's seven previous PGA Tour victories have come with the lead at the midway point.
